FOR BETTER BIOBANKING
Autonomy, Flexibility and An Open Source Philosophy:
ATiM was designed and developed by the Canadian Tissue Repository Network (CTRNet) in conjunction with leading Canadian tissue banks specifically for the operation of biobanks.
Since its founding, the database has been deployed in 57 Biobanks throughout Canada and manages the data of more than 72,000 recruited participants. This includes 1.6 Million aliquots of biological material for multiple research domains such as oncology, heart diseases, Covid 19, transplants, AIDS, lung disease, pediatric disease, and more.
With its intuitive interface, everyday users can quickly begin to navigate ATiM and input their data: step-by-step how-to guides and explanatory videos are also available.
Open source, ATiM is a highly functional and flexible, low-cost option for a biobanking software that can evolve alongside project needs. Developers may take advantage of regular community meetings as well as, an expanding collection of custom code examples hosted on Gitlab.

Testimonials:
Because of the link between the biospecimen inventory and patient clinical, pathological, and molecular data, ATiM enhances our research by enabling us to study and compare the biological features of well-characterized subsets of tumours and patients.

Staying on top of our tumour bank samples, currently, more than 1500 was cumbersome but doable. The samples are however of much greater value when they can be linked to clinical annotations and then grouped based on project-specific criteria and pulled from storage for use. Getting from a simple inventory type spreadsheet to something that could be used in this manner was a daunting task and well above my expertise.
ATiM provided us with everything we needed to do this and more. Clinical annotations are easily completed with predefined fields (which can be customized if needed) and specimens are found with a quick search. The team supporting this software is also great, quickly addressing any questions or issues that may arise.
